you are so right about their laying season, its so nice to see someone else
not want to mess with their laying season. Its hard on their liittle
bodys.
+Adam Dahlberg Originally I wanted rainbow eggs, so I got a couple blue egg
layers, a white, a cream, a brown a couple dark browns and a green. Of
course there are generally several breeds in each category, so I picked my
favorite climate appropriate breeds. 7 years later I get whatever genetics
have crossed. In a couple generations I suspect I’ll have something akin to
the Mexican pero, a generic brownish chicken with brown eggs.
Building a chicken coops yourself is really simple and interesting task.
I’ve made a simple to follow help guide for constructing your very own back
yard chicken house. It’s made for that complete beginner, and you won’t
require any carpentry skills
enjoyed your tip on the color of light bulbs. Hopefully I’ll be able too
get into chickens next year. This year I’m starting with Bee’s…for my
garden. Thanks Again.
Cody sent me here and dang…what a cool YouTube channel! Him making
pizza…what a goof! Really funny!! You do an amazing job with the videos
too
and I hope to catch up more when I can find the time. Aside from the grey
and drizzle half the year its a pretty awesome place :-)
You could increase the efficiency of your heating efforts very cheaply by
using mylar survival blankets to line the walls of the coop. Amazon sells a
10-pack for $7.00 + shipping or $7.00 flat if you’re a Prime member. They
would also help to cut down air infiltration. You’d need to monitor the
amount of heat you were adding, as it is possible to overheat with them,
even in the dead of winter. But probably not a problem with a bulb,
although it’d be safer to keep an eye on it.
This video makes me feel guilty that I eat chicken. 🙁
It’s also a first,I grew up on a farm and I have never seen anyone heat
their chicken house.I get the feeling they are more “pet” than they are for
“eating” ?
I do that same thing with a red lamp. Unfortunately all my hens are dead.
The last group i got had bad genetics and the great ones I had before that
were all killed by the neighbors dog.
good idea about the red bulb. I was going to put a heat lamp in for my
girls too, but I have a clear one. I think I’ll pick up a red one tomorrow
when I’m out.
Have you ever seen the hilarious YouTube video The Hazards of Backyard Hens
that OneGirlsRant did? When I saw you talking to your chickens as I also
do, I wanted to let you know of The Hazards of Backyard Hens video.
I am a tad odder than you because I have one gold buff orpington that I let
ride on the front seat when I am out doing errands. She jumps in the car
on her own.
I’m so glad you did a video about your chickens, as your chicken Friendly
looks so healthy and beautiful. I’ve seen people who had chickens that
were unhealthy and pecked by the other chickens.
As you were explaining about the molting, color of the light, their annual
cycles, I realized one reason I like watching your videos. Maybe it hit me
because I watched your video “On Motivation” last night. You see the value
in sharing in this format, for one. However, you are passionate, thorough,
and thoughtful in what you present, no matter what the topic. I really
appreciate that. I know that when I watch you I won’t get arbitrary info,
and it won’t be haphazardly done. In spite of your precision in execution
(especially in cooking), you include your personal reasons and the human
element in your instruction. Thanks for that. I’ll keep watching, and I’d
love anything you want to share about chickens, as my husband and I plan on
getting some this year.
Here’s my nod to your brother. Even though you two are different, you
share some of these same traits I mentioned here: thought, care and
personal investment in your efforts. I love his wife’s videos, too,
especially the ones with her mom! Ha
My Mom used a white heat light and I can remember the roosters crowing at
2am. We also had a sparrow problem. When she would go in the pen the
sparrows would fly and upset the chickens which would in turn upset her. I
found it entertaining to watch=D

+Timothy Heist It is. My husband built it as a robotics project. Good eye.

It’s always the last drawer.
great share, thank you
Great video once again, FP :). You’re a natural for this venue… much
more engaging than that stiff, cranky brother of yours ;)

Love the song but there is no reference for Pearl Jam “Go on” anywhere on
the web, would love to find this song.

Weather strip that door. My skinny sister could almost squeeze through
that crack.
Good job.

How much wood chips do you put down on the floor?
Great stuff, as always! You have such a wonderful raport with your birds
that is a joy to watch.
Beautiful woman.
not sure how i missed this one.
What lucky chickens!!
