  3. Depending on where you live you should check the local ordinances before setting up for chickens. I know in Europe they are a little more receptive to the idea of homeowners keeping chickens, but in the US most places have ordinances prohibiting livestock ownership in non-farm areas. You wouldn’t want to commit to the expense of raising chickens only to have the city inspector send you a summons. Even in places that allow chickens, roosters may still be illegal because of the noise.

  4. I’m guessing your parents don’t want you to have them because they think you aren’t responsible enough… in which case, you need to prove to them you are. Even if you have the money, maybe you should save your own to be able to build a coop and get the chickens. If you really really want them, you can earn the money for them, and that really shows responsibility.

  6. This movie is very outdated…we have a different coop now.

I probably won’t be doing anymore coop videos simply because I don’t really have anything to say… We haven’t ever had problems with bears or foxes…but we do keep them in an enclosed area and shut them inside at night.

  9. I live in regular suburbs and have had chickens here for the past 4-5 years-no problems. My neighbors are fine with it. They are rather quiet because I only have hens (no crowing roosters). I take walks in the neighborhood often & every year I hear more and more chickens & even roosters in peoples yards in my area. In this neighborhood you’d never think people would be raising chickens. I doubt they are even allowed here, but food in stores can’t be trusted so we raise our own!

  12. Informative video! My husband and I are getting 9 baby girls in two weeks and are building our coop now. We’ve never had chickens before OR built a coop, so this was helpful to see how the chickens USE their roosts and next boxes, which you don’t see when you look at chicken coop plans! They seem very very happy!

  13. Great chicken coop! How many chickens do you have and how many eggs do they produce for you on an average month?
