  1. the foil insulation actually works more efficiently when there is an air gap on both sides of it.So it actually would be better to run it over the studs and rafters instead of in.

  2. coop w/o all the upgrades was 1k. I’d say that is typical for a built coop of this size in NJ. For electricity, I dug a trench and buried a direct burial wire (from home depot). Check out my part two.. I have a few more tips

  3. Thank you. Since I am new to all this chicken stuff, how big does the coop and attached run need to be for 8 chickens? I am in Massachusetts, and it can get pretty cold here. We are building, and I have read 4 sq. feet per chicken for the coop, 10 sq. feet for the run per chicken. So what is that in basic dimensions (we are building it inside out 10x6x30 dog kennel, but only using about 15 feet of that length, as I do wildlife rehab, so my release cage is in there as well. Thank you.

  5. Im looking to build a simular coop for 4-6 chickens. But im wondering what the dimensions of this one are because mine would probably be the same height and width just not as long.

  6. Yeah my 10 chickens annihilated the bug population in their 400 sq ft pen in a matter of days. Their feed consumption also dropped to almost nothing, they are eating less than 5lbs of feed per month, and its still pretty cool here.

  7. I do not sorry. This coop style without most of my upgrades is rather common. The Amish for one, make and distribute it all over the place. If you search amish or cottage or board and batten coops you’ll find something.

  8. great video. very informative. could you please post a link to where you purchased your coop? i searched as you suggested, but could not find this model available for sale – i could only find plans for a few similar ones. we really love the style and layout of this coop and its construction looks like it would do well in north-eastern MA. any help would be appreciated. thanks!

  9. I have over ten times built a chicken coop for UNDER 10 dollars and sold them for 225 or 250. Hinges and latches cost is about all. Everything else you need can be had for free. The chicken run I don’t Use or need one. I let them run around on their own.

  10. U can buy the motor itself on amazon. Just search chicken automatic door. Its called a d20 motor. As for power, yes you could install a solar panel with a charger controller and a battery. Might be a little pricy. You can also buy direct burial wire and dig a small trench from your house to the coop, bring electricity right to the coop.
