  3. I was just thinking he hadn’t made any videos lately then I checked and see his account is closed. Does anyone know what happened with him? I liked his videos and viewpoints.

  4. Yes, clipping just one side will make them off-balanced and (supposedly) unable to get loft to fly. I tried clipping one side initially, but until I clipped both sides, my hens were still getting over the fence — all but the two, fat Buff Orpingtons that is. : ) I will be waiting to see if they can still get over the fence this summer now that they are bigger and mature.

  5. Hey guys really like your videos ,Just wandering if the hens are getting to the gravel easily enough as seeing the hay is really thick,,you know they need the rock for their crawl

  6. I do it on the same way. We have 6 very old chicken (> 6 years) and 7 young chicken and every day between 7 and 12 eggs. Green food is important and a nice space to walk around. 🙂

  7. Well, there’s actually (6) older (2 years old) Barred Rock birds besides the 10 young hens in the new coop. So that would be 12 eggs from 16 birds. : ) But at least two of the B.R’s are molting. So. . . I wouldn’t get B.R’s again for layers. Not impressed with them at all — not consistant layers in my experience. I am hoping to find someone to process them before winter. I Better get on that, huh?

  8. Hi,
I feed a laying mash ground at my local feedmill, no meds added. It looks like fine sawdust. I mix this half and half with scratch grain (also milled at the feedmill). And as I fill the hopper, I mix in some oyster shell. Plus, they get all kinds of left-overs from the house. Are your chickens getting any kind of greens in their diet? That may help bring on the eggs. Give them a few more weeks. I bet they start laying.

  9. Great video. 11 eggs per 12 chickens is doing great for November! Way to go sno-pony and love those fat Buff orpingtons.
