  1. @agendor101 The easiest [and most effective] cat repellants I know of are
a] Lemons [or any citrus] slice them and drop the slices thru the garden, or juice them and sprinkle the juice everywhere.
b] Cayenne pepper–sprinkle it around like cheap salt
Both of these SHOULD be okay for the birds . . . they won’t hurt the cats either, but cats truly LOATHE lemons, or any other citrus.
I use the same remedies to repel deer. Works a treat!

  3. @agendor101 I don’t personally know of any cat repellant products which say they are safe for chickens, but it doesn’t mean there isn’t one. You could try asking the Green Gardener (greengardener dot co dot uk) who does Q&As on pest control products. If you can’t find a product you could try the chicken wire option in that one problem corner (you lay chicken wire just under the surface of the soil to prevent cats from scratching to bury their mess, then snip planting holes for your plants)

  7. Don’t name your chickens. Your children will consider them to be pets. Do you really think the children will enjoy eating their pets? Good luck with that!

  8. @TheFoodiesBooks In the winter time try hanging a light bulb in the hen house. Make sure it isn’t drafty in there.

  9. I would like to make a suggestion. When it come’s to lice or parasites on your chickens. I have bird houses and when I clean them out, the first thing I do is put in “CEDAR SHAVINGS”. They are cheap enough and then the birds bring in their straw from wherever and build on top of the shavings. The parasites will leave the birds as they sleep. For some reason the smell of cedar shavings attracts parasites. Then they die in the shavings. Makes for clean birds. Try it. I hope it works with chickens.
