@faithwingnut Thank you for your question. Chickens are probably the only animal it is OK to feed a 100% fodder diet without supplementing with some roughage (usually hay/straw). Chickens LOVE fodder and will eat everything- root mat, sprouts as well as any seed that has not germinated. We have had success feeding barley, wheat, rye and buckwheat.

Hi Eric,
I’m curious to know if the fodder is the only thing you feed your chickens or if you have to supplement with something else? We are looking into a unit to feed our 25 chickens, 2 cows and 6 pigs (come spring). Also, do you think the chickens would do well on just barley or do you feel like they need the wheat too? Thanks for your input!
