had the same box but for rabbits, shit quality, neighbors feral dogs broke
into it and killed one of them :/ very disappointing product
Hey I have a very similar coop. But without the automatic door. It was 57€
less so I’ll make one from the scrap wood we have laying around. Also the
front door is chicken wire but we have plenty of wood and plastic sheets. I
did use bigger screws on the latches. They where far to short and thin for
the pre-drilled holes.
We bought the same coop – we also built onto it as it is way to small – 3
chickens is all that can be comfortably housed in this coop unless you have
the small breeds (silkies/bantams). We have 2 Ida Browns and 1 Australorp;
I would highly recommend reinforcing the coop/house to better protect your
girls from raccoons – we really beefed up the house with 1 X 12’s,
additional locks and fencing underneath as well as putting 1×6’s under the
frame for weight and stability in high winds. We went further by adding a
fenced enclosure of 12’x16′ attached to the coop and run area like you
have. We have foxes, coyote and have already had raccoons test our coop –
We were lucky we saw them before they reached the girls – we bought better
hardware cloth and replaced the thin wire it came with and used heavy duty
staples and wood stripping to secure it- you were right on it costing a
lot! You will like the ease of collecting eggs and cleaning is fairly easy.
We also added a wood bottom on the pull out tray – we thought the metal
would draw too much cold in the winter and be hot in the summer. We had to
remove the small perches and replaced them with a 2×4 we had to screw into
the coop on an angle about 1/2 way up from the floor once the girls got
bigger. If we had it to do all over again, we would have built our own coop
although it is really cute. Once we move, this coop will be used for broody
hens. Best wishes with your girls! We enjoyed watching your video on your
coop too 🙂
Where did you buy your original coop, please?
hi Brandon could you tell me how to do the modifications? you show the
finish product, but not how to do it. I purchased that coop, for a lot of
money and its really not worth it, but they will not return me the money.
Can you help me?
HELLO FRIEND, THAT SELLS henhouse ANYWAY JUST RIDE?, SORRY BUT HOW MUCH?
THANK YOU
do you have trouble with raccoons in your area?
you make beautiful things
Use a little bar soap on the sliding door for the house to help it open and
close easier
AWESOME coop you got there! Thanks for sharing.
FYI – I am in Ft Worth…
Wish I’d seen this before I bought one. You don’t get a feel for how small
it is in the promotional materal
*Here’s How to design a coop that keeps your chickens warm in even the
coldest of climates*
damn thats small
i purchased the exact same coop, but where did you buy the add on that you
did.? I Love it and want to to do the same.
Brandon I am glad to see this coop. I have bought the same one (bought it
2 days ago). I am not looking forward to putting it together. I have
already designed (roughly) an additional run built around it about 5 1/2
ft tall and 4 wide (with roof) to allow for more room.
Question. has your coop handled 5 chickens? or did you add the extra box?
Very curious.
Thanks for posting. I just got this and the directions are horrific! I’m
going stain it. You think it would be easier to stain the pieces first then
put it together or put together then stain?
Building our Chicken Coop
What will you do in the winter? Are you thinking about installing a heat
lamp for the chickens? also, it looks like you have put some additional
timber along the bottom of the chicken coop and run? How did you do this?
I have this coop it is very good and we have two chickens and we have made
the run bigger
No, no HOA here. Thanks for watching!
but i do like the addition
Nice Job on that coop, and great mods. Wondering if now it is too small for
all (5) chickens you have, I am looking at the same one but will only have
(3) chickens.
Too small: Not sure, they seems happy at night in the house. But they are
truly free-range all day, and make their way back in the coop at night.
Will be expanding it in the spring though.
It’s good cause i have baby chicks so its. Good but when that get big i
need a new one
