if u clip there wings and keep them fed, they,ll never fly away or wander off
@palmoffun good luck!
We are suppose to get some chickens some time soon.
You need like 3-4 square feet per chicken
OMG those kids are so cute.
@agendor101 The easiest [and most effective] cat repellants I know of are
a] Lemons [or any citrus] slice them and drop the slices thru the garden, or juice them and sprinkle the juice everywhere.
b] Cayenne pepper–sprinkle it around like cheap salt
Both of these SHOULD be okay for the birds . . . they won’t hurt the cats either, but cats truly LOATHE lemons, or any other citrus.
I use the same remedies to repel deer. Works a treat!
oh and by the way if its wooden coups dust them with diatom powder then the mite wont prosper
keep a tub of grit handy layers pellets and corn make sure you got some red mite dust secure them from the foxes and bobs your mothers brother…..chickens are easy to keep as long as you keep them pesky foxes at bay….my coup hasnt long been hit which i must add is way more secure than the bunting this lot got up for theres lol but my 22 soon sorted out the 5 that is in the area bye bye mr red and mrs red replenish the stock for my eggs very soon…….
Well got 3 girls here a month now …. not yet brave enough to video them but some photos on fb
@agendor101 I don’t personally know of any cat repellant products which say they are safe for chickens, but it doesn’t mean there isn’t one. You could try asking the Green Gardener (greengardener dot co dot uk) who does Q&As on pest control products. If you can’t find a product you could try the chicken wire option in that one problem corner (you lay chicken wire just under the surface of the soil to prevent cats from scratching to bury their mess, then snip planting holes for your plants)
@vogtrinity lucky you!
@Davidlutherphillips thank you! I hope you do and it’s everything you imagined (apart from the poop…)
Thanks Am thinking of fullfilling a childhood dream of keeping some so very very useful 🙂
@StrangeHomeVideos Interesting tips, thanks!
@Chrisdotnorthwich Glad to hear it covered most of the points you needed, I did try!
@Roca15 Thanks, nice to hear your children liked it too!
Great video. Lovely having the kids answer some questions. My kids are about the same age and they loved it.
Thank you for posting this video. We are thinking about keeping some chickens and this was very helpful. Nicely put together as well.
For quality, attractive chicken coops see my videos or google ‘Oakdene Coops’

Don’t name your chickens. Your children will consider them to be pets. Do you really think the children will enjoy eating their pets? Good luck with that!
@TheFoodiesBooks In the winter time try hanging a light bulb in the hen house. Make sure it isn’t drafty in there.
@buddybleau I’ve never heard of that tip, that’s very interesting – thanks for bringing it!
I would like to make a suggestion. When it come’s to lice or parasites on your chickens. I have bird houses and when I clean them out, the first thing I do is put in “CEDAR SHAVINGS”. They are cheap enough and then the birds bring in their straw from wherever and build on top of the shavings. The parasites will leave the birds as they sleep. For some reason the smell of cedar shavings attracts parasites. Then they die in the shavings. Makes for clean birds. Try it. I hope it works with chickens.
@StrangeHomeVideos Thanks for the tips!
Very Nice Video – Really good advice for my Farm! 2 Advice Tips – 1. When cleaning them out. Sweep out the Hay, hose the Place they ussally sleep, dry it off and your done! 2. If you ever find your chickens eat eggs frequently, crack an egg open, put chilli and spices inside, put in the cage/place they sleep. And they wil never eat the again after eating that horrible lot! 🙂
