Cages can be big. Or there can be a chicken run attached to the enclosed roost area. Grass and bugs are best!
At first she says the chickens roam around and eat grass and bugs and are free and eat natural food. Then she says you need to keep them in a cage and buy food for them?
What breed if chickens is at 1:54? Someone please answer! I found a chicken and her chicks walking home one day and I believe that is her breed.
What breed if chicken is at 1:54? Please someone answer! I have those types, but I do not know what they are. I found them as I was walking home one day.
How long do the eggs last after the chickens lay them?
I got a baby chick and I thought it was going to be a hen but now he’s a rooster. I wanted a hen 🙁 But I love my rooster, even though he crows and doesn’t lay eggs and bites my feet. (I have a few videos of him on my channel)
I would love to have chickens but what happens when they get old and don’t lay eggs anymore, i definitively don’t want to kill it and eat it that’s for sure??
A very good video. Every one with space should rise their own chickens for healthy eggs. I know it has a wonderful taste
Ya thats true they do! lol
I’ve raised chickens for over 30 years… its Awesome!

Very nice, clean, and informative video about laying hens. Thanks so much for the information.
Yeah fresh free range chicken/pets egg’s look like they have the cheddar already added. 🙂
Thank you so much for posting this video! May I ask what do you do when a chicken stops laying eggs? Evidently when they are laying they are highly productive, but I was curious to know whether or not you raise some chickens or roosters for human consumption, whether you consume them once their productivity has declined or become obsolete, or if you do something else. Thanks!
I’m thinking about ordering chicks for next year, but I have a question for you. Is the Marek vaccination per chick, prior to shipping, a good idea or is it a waste of money? Any advice?
They will lay eggs without a Rooster but if you want to get chicks you need a rooster.
A chicken will lay an average of 5 eggs a week, depending on the age of the chicken, and where she is at in her laying cycle.
Hello, an interesting video and you obviously like your birds. Totally agree that your own eggs are far superior to the commercial rubbish you buy from the supermarkets from permanently caged birds which lead miserable lives.
Just a point about egg production – we have found that our chickens need a constant supply of fresh water. If they don’t have water available they tend to stop laying.
i read somewhere that the rooster has to fertilize the egg for it to hatch
but the hen can lay eggs without a rooster
Great video! I’m just starting out with chickens this year, loving every second of it! =)
No.. Hens will start laying eggs around 4 months old or so, with or without a rooster! The only reason you need to have a rooster, is if you plan to hatch the eggs. =)
Thanks for posting the video.
Can you train chickens to lay eggs at certain locations? or do that lay all over the place which might be difficult to find in the grasses with free roaming chickens?
The orange egg yolks have me confused…because I buy eggs at the health food store ( Whole Foods Store) that are supposed to be free range but they have yellow yolks…so makes me wonder now about what I am buying?!
My family is looking foward to raising some chickens…
