  1. Good, I’m glad you liked my video and are feeling more optimistic about raising chickens. Yes, one of my favorite things about them is the fact that they turn nasty garden-destroying slugs into beautiful, nutritious eggs! I can’t find a single slug or snail in my backyard. After it rains, I collect them from out front and deliver them to my girls to eat. My neighbor donates here in a bucket, as well.

  2. Chickens and other animals carry Salmonella. If you wash your hands after handling the birds, or their poop, you will not get sick. Chickens are no more likely to make you sick than dogs, cats, or other pets. I have never gotten sick from my chickens.

  3. No, I have never lost one of my chickens to predators but I know lots of people who have. Follow the instructions on both my videos and you won’t have that problem. Once while I was outside with the hens and they were free-ranging, a hawk swooped down and they ran to hide under a tree. After that I pulled out the clothes line across the middle of the yard with yellow ribbons hanging down – it never returned.

  4. Have you ever lost one of your girls to predators? When I start raising chickens of my own I’d like to let them free range but I don’t want to lose any to a bird of prey.

  6. Great little video! The wife has set her heart on raising chickens, and I (we) have been laboring to get the coop built. I was a bit dubious about the whole affair, but your video makes me believe that this experiment will actually be an enjoyable experience for both of us! I’m glad to hear that chickens like slugs. We have a ton of them in the NW.
