  2. You correct yourself on saying algae. I don’t think there is a correct way.
There are a lot of websites that say their way is the right way and there
are about 4 or 5 different ways of pronouncing it. It seems to me most
people on the planet disagree with ‘Al-Jay’. Yet, when I looked at my SAIT
medical terminology book it says a suffix of ae with a g in front of it is
pronounced ‘jay’. I guess it can be argued that Algae is the whole root
word therefore the rule doesn’t apply. Anyway, pronounce it however you
    want to pronounce it.

  4. Back home and trying to catch up on the videos that I missed. Your girls
look like they are enjoying the new dogless space. I now have a paper
shredder and I’m using the waste in the nest like you suggested thanks for
    the idea.

  8. I wonder if you paint the water barrel black. Would it help with the growth
of algae. I had a question about the lime in chicken run. Do you know if it
causes any trouble to animals if they digest it? I have a rabbit. Thanks
for sharing. It is interesting to see what is happing in another part of
the world. We are winding up for spring here. Have a good one.

  9. You have to be careful of those secretive chickens. I remember watching
chicken run when the kids were smaller. They have some devious minds. Are
you sure that you left the bolt cutters there, I notice the chooks were not
going to let you know they were there ;)

  10. Time for a bit of an update on the chooks & some changes to their day pen..
Included some info on what we use to keep the odours down in the pen as
well as control the lice & mites that chickens are susceptible too..

  11. Hey Rob, Though I hadn’t personally researched it (and still have no idea
as to the correct application rates), I did pick up from one of your clips
about the vinegar. We tried about 3 tablespoons of cleaning vinegar (it was
next to the laundry tub and I was too lazy to get the apple cider vinegar
from up stairs) in our 9 litre/2.3Gals water container and man what a
difference!… Next time we came to fill it, there was hardly any algae 🙂
Normally we would need to scrub and scrub, but now it’s just a quick
wipe… I think of you each time we fill it.:).. Thanks… Chris

  12. It’s great to see how healthy your chickens are. If I ever have some of my
own I want to try and emulate as much of your setup as I can. As for the
water tank, you could attach a vinegar reservoir under the automatic filler
with a tube going into the water pipe venturi-style, so it adds vinegar
every time it gets topped up.

  14. Love your clean pathways! I know how much hard work that is! Your chooks
sound like mine… ‘food please!! Treats please!’ They’re so cute!

  15. Nice video Rob, liming is a good tip for chook pens and it also adds value
to the garden mulch collected from the pen. You probably know this, but
painting or putting a cover over your drinker is another way to help stop
algae buildup in the water – stopping the light getting through the clear
container will help lots. Cheers Mate 🙂
